    Ligament Injuries

    Ligament Injuries

    What Are The Knee Ligaments?

Ligament tears in knee hurt a lot and may limit what you want to do daily. Ligaments are tough band of tissues that connect the bones in your knee joints. There are four ligaments in the knee that are prone to injury:

    • Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is the most commonly injured knee ligament. It connects the thigh bone to the shin bone.
    • Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) also links the thigh bone to the shin bone in the knee
    • Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL) and Medial Collateral LIgament (MCL) connect the thigh bone to the shin bone on the inside of the knee.

All these ligaments play roles in providing strength and stability to the knee joint, keeping the bones in alignment as muscles move the joints.

    Symptoms Of Ligament Injuries

When trauma happens, ligaments might be injured known as sprain. Signs and symptoms of a knee ligament sprain include:

    • Pain
    • Swelling
    • Loss of knee range of motion (ROM)
    • Decreased strength of the muscles surrounding your knee

Your knee is a major weight-bearing joint in the body and is responsible for standing, walking, running and rising from sitting. Please take your health seriously as knee injuries will limit your ability to do these things.
