Rehabilitation is care that can help you get back, keep, or improve abilities that you need for daily life. These abilities may be physical, mental, and/or cognitive (thinking and learning). You may have lost them because of a disease or injury, or as a side effect from a medical treatment. Rehabilitation can improve your daily life and functioning.
As a leading Chiropractic and Physiotherapy Clinic & rehabilitation center in Malaysia, our team of Chiropractors and Physiotherapists work together in preparation of rehabilitation program for our patients. In One Spine, we focus on patient’s personal improvement in term of posture, exercises as well as their overall quality of life.
In One Spine, we focus on three types of rehabilitation including:
1) Posture Rehabilitation
2) Post-injury Rehabilitation
3) Stroke Rehabilitation
POSTURE is one of the main topic we focus as Chiropractors and Physiotherapists. It is the connection between the structure and function. The bones, the joints and muscles, ligament and even nerve will affect our posture.
Are you working round the clocks in front of the computers ? Are you looking at the screen of your phone at the right angles ? Are you driving with back support on your car seat ? Are you sitting on your wallet all the time ?
All these above will eventually affect our posture and causing changes in position of our body. An individual acquires a posture as a result of experiencing a constantly changing environment affected by stress, as well as physical and emotional trauma.
Bad posture in the workplace, repeated and maintained over time, shallow breathing, chemical imbalances due to an unhealthy diet, affect muscles and cause an increase in contraction in addition to the pre-existing basal tone. Over time, this state of permanent muscle contraction leads to retraction, pain and a reduction in the range of joint movement.
The effects of poor ergonomic posture and consequent muscle retraction occur in the joints in the form of compression, axial rotation and translation, causing changes to the skeletal structure (scoliosis, hyperlordosis, kyphosis, valgus and varus knees, etc.) often resulting in more serious postural disorders to the point of becoming chronic.
The aim of postural rehabilitation is to stimulate the body, and all its complex methods of adjustment, into regaining a more function balance in relation to its physical composition.
In One Spine, with Chiropractors and Physiotherapists working together, we are able to adjust the affected body parts as well as educating patients with the understanding of the prescribed exercises and variations. In addition to this, a holistic, integrated approach with selected methods and exercises will provide an individually tailored, rehabilitation treatment plan.
The process of rehabilitation should start as early as possible after an injury.
After an injury, we focus several components of our patients in regaining back their active lifestyle and confidence in daily activity living.
Those component include :
1) Pain Management
-It is always our priority to decrease the pain and swelling after injury.
-Only with pain subsiding, we can introduce exercise-based rehabilitation programme.
2) Flexibility and Joint ROM
– Injury can result in decreased joint range of motion due to fibrosis and wound contraction.
– Following injury , flexibility of our body will be diminished due to muscle spasm, inflammation, swelling and pain.
We will be introducing stretching technique to improve the range of motion including PNF, static stretching and ballistic stretching.
3) Strength and Endurance
– Injuries to the musculoskeletal system could result in skeletal muscle hypotrophy and weakness, loss of aerobic capacity and fatigability.
Therefore we will introduce an major muscle exercises programmes with relatively high intensity and short periods interval.
4) Proprioception and Coordination
-Proprioception is the sensations of the deep organs and of the relationship between muscles and joint. Loss of this function can be happened when there is injury to ligaments, tendons or joints.
In One Spine, restoration of proprioception is an important part of rehabilitation. We will need to reintroduce proprioception reeducation to get the muscular receptors working in order to provide rapid motor response.
-Coordination is the capacity to perform movements in a smooth, precise and controlled manner.
During rehabilitation, patients are guided to perform with simple activities in repeating and perfect execution. The process will be speed up gradually with increasing complexity.
